Professor Dr. Amir Hossein Zekrgoo

Professor Zekrgoo is an artist, art historian and an Indologist. He is an established painter, a skillful calligrapher and an imaginative photographer whose works have been exhibited in many countries namely Czechoslovakia, China, India, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Switzerland, UAE, and US since 1977.
 
His journeys along the Silk Road have had a deep impact on his artworks. In 1995 he was awarded the prestigious Hirayama Fellowship by UNESCO and has traveled many times along an important sector of this historical road comprising Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, China and Japan to carry out a research on “The Evolution of Islamic Calligraphy & the Evolution Buddhist Iconography along the Silk Roads”.
 
In 1997 he was made a Member of UNESCO’s First International Team of Buddhist Studies.
                   
He has been engaged in teaching art, history of art, philosophy of Islamic & Oriental Arts, and comparative studies in religious and sacred arts since 1982.
                   
In 2001 he moved to Malaysia and joined the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
He is presently a professor of Islamic and Oriental Arts at the said institute.
