Darby Vincent Alcoseba

Coming from a family of artists, Darby was exposed to the arts from childhood. He learned the basics from his father, who is known for his expertise in watercolor. In spite of the encouragement to pursue a career in painting, he took a course in Computer Engineering, with the idea of getting away from the economic struggle that his father was experiencing. After graduation, he worked for a company specializing in Art Design for a few years and there, he realized that his salary was not enough to compensate for his needs. The few paintings he did in his free time made up for the lack and he found himself gradually doing more and more paintings which encouraged him to participate in local and national art competitions. Winning his first art competition was a sort of revelation for him but not enough for him to decide to go full time into painting until his prayers for enlightenment was answered. After winning the Art Petron Darby finally decided to pursue his dream.

Gifted with great patience and perseverance, Darby aggressively participated in other national art competitions. Talent and persistence won him national recognition when he bagged the Grand Prize in the Watercolor Category in the Metrobank Art and Design Competition in 2013. It also boosted his self-confidence, affirming he made the right choice. Darby is a member of Cebu Artists Incorporated and joins actively in the group’s activities, exhibiting his works in Cebu, Manila, Davao, Bali, Kuala Lumpur and Kluang.

Darby is better known for his detailed watercolors but is also adept in the use of oils and acrylics and is continually seeking to explore their possibilities and limits.
