ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair (AATF 2014)

Joel V Cristobal

Before becoming a painter, Cristobal was foremost, a musician. His music brought him to Palau and Malaysia in the 1990’s. His exposure to art sketching in Selangor made such a lasting impression in his mind that upon his return from his foreign stints, he tried dipping his hands and mind into developing his heretofore untapped talent in painting. His artistic cravings found its answers when he joined a group of artists in Morong , Rizal.

With patience and dedication, Cristobal gradually nurtured his artistic skills through friendships with other artists in his town in Baras, Rizal. It was however his encounter with the Cebuano artists that he developed his passion for painting, the constant companionship with Cebuano artists gave him the opportunity to expose his art in Cebu as well as in other exhibits organized by the Cebu Artists Incorporated, this relationship has made him, to all intents and purposes, a member of the group.

Joel’s biggest break in the art scene was his privilege to paint the mural in the lobby of Veterans Memorial Hospital in Quezon City. He also joins other exhibits in Manila organized by other art groups. He was part of the Cebuano artists who joined the ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair in Viva Home Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur last year. He also took part in the last exhibit of the group in 2013, ‘Bridging Cultures’ in Kluang Mall, in Kluang, Johor, Malaysia.

Joel started to paint in the impressionist manner but has gradually developed his own style in Cubism. He will be part of the Cebuano artists who will be participating in the AATF in Kuala Lumpur this year and LAB 2014 in Langkawi.
