Big Pond

CONCEPT:
I like to use watercolour as the media to create an art piece
because the transparency nature of the watercolour can fully
expressed the uniqueness of the colors and the mobility of
the water can create an interesting image. As an artist that
used water element as the media, I have devoted myself in
studying the potentials of the media, so that I can create
something that is extraordinary and unique. Every time when
I am about to create something, I would see it as a new
challenge and I would use different elements for each of my
creations in order to create a new style. The technique I
frequently used is to utilize the directions of lines or strokes to
increase the visual impact of the art piece.

ARTIST PROFILE
In the past, I was undecided between a career in teaching art and becoming a full-time professional artist. After a series of thinking, I had decided to become an art teacher. My first ever art training centre, YS art centre was subsequently set up in 1991. Throughout these 21 years, I had been awarded "Outstanding Teacher Award" by Institutions of Shanghai and Beijing Education Bureau in a number of occasions. Although my current profession revolves around the education sector, but my enthusiasm for artistic creation remain undiminished.

Therefore, in recent years, I have gradually lessen my work of teaching art, so that I can begin experience and practise outdoor sketching in order to groom my drawing skill, and to enhance my artistic level. During my brief transition from an educator to an artistic creator, I was surprised to find out just how much love I have had for painting. In other words, teaching art does not satisfy my passion for artistic creation.

However, I felt reluctant to completely cease my work of teaching. Knowing that there will be some trade-offs trying to get two things done simultaneously I try to put my priority on painting, but still continue teaching art. Having taught myself without formal art education, I rely heavily on hard work and the exposure that I got from other fellow artists. My ultimate goal is to present my artistic creations in an International-level grand exhibition. This goal is also what motivates me to persistently strive to achieve for the best.
