Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism Launch

If a colour could describe how I feel, what colour would I choose for most Monday? Blue? Orange? Yellow? or perhaps colourless? Which reminds me of the letter which Vincent van Gogh wrote to a friend, in it he wrote

"Fromentin and Gérôme see the soil of the South as colourless, and a lot of people see it like that. My God, yes, if you take some sand in your hand, if you look at it closely, and also water, and also air, they are all colourless, looked at in this way. There is no blue without yellow and without orange, and if you put in blue, then you must put in yellow, and orange too, mustn't you?"

My answer! Colourless, on 8 July, Monday. I left for KLCC feeling colourless, but I left KLCC discovering my colourless feelings are actually filled with many colours.

At KLCC I witness a jamboree of local as well as international artist, art promoters, art lovers, people of all shade of colours gathering for the launch of Malaysia fourth 1MCAT (Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism) organized by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia.

A bit of history here, 1 MCAT was initiated by our former Ministry of Tourism, YB Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen in 2010. It was an unusual tourism product with the intention to introduce foreign visitors to the gripping facet of the Malaysia. This year our new Minister for tourism and culture,  Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri sums up succiinly  "The well-known catchline 'Malaysia, Truely Asia' still rings true, but with 1MCAt on the rise, we may soon be hearing 'Malaysia,  Truly Art', too,"

In the opening speech the minister conveyed the following;

"Malaysia's natrural wonders have been her biggest draw for many years. However, we recognized that our contemporary art industry was burgeoning and compelling- an attraction in itself! 1 MCAT highlights the best of what the industry has to offer, and the festival is also a way to support our local players by giving them the limelight that they truly deserve."
