SUNDAY 18 MARCH 2012

5 PM

@ NN GALLERY

NN Gallery has been hosting this annual watercolour exhibition by members of the Malaysian Watercolour Society since 2005 and yes, 2012 makes it the 8th year! This time round 81 pieces by 28 artists are on show at NN’s lovely two-storey corner lot shop-lot gallery. The high white ceiling and walls are just perfect to show off the watercolour paintings and paintings in any other medium, for that matter.

We love watercolour paintings, and have bought several pieces from previous exhibitions. Something about the subject matters, colours and the light…are just so captivating. As stated in the write-up for the exhibition, favourite subjects include rural, floral and fauna, figurative and picturesque scenes, life in the kampungs, local scenes as well as historical landmarks and buildings. Indeed, these are all well represented and the participating artists are:

Tan Sik Yaw, Tan Suz Chiang, Mohammad Faizal Hj Zainal, Yeo Eng Peng, Jansen Chow, Abdul Ghani Ahmad, Lee Eng Beng, Lee Weng Fatt, Alex Leong Yim Kuan, Dr. Wong Seng Tong, Kho Choon Lee, Zaharuddin Sarbini, Jacky Chin, Lee Sing Pan, Md Nor Bidin, Calvin Chua, Liang See Shong, Cheung Pooi Yip, Yong Look Lam, Koh Shim Luen, Chow Chin Chuan, Lee Kee Seng, Khoo Chiang Jin, Khor Seow Hooi, Dato Tengku Alaudin bin Tengku Abdul Majid, Loo Hooi Nam, Nurhayati Mohd Yusoff and King Ban Hui.

Chow Chin Huat, Faizal Zainal and Nabil Nahar

Ahmad Fauzi, Rasid Yusof and Lee Han Huei

It was a casual affair that Sunday evening with no official opening but Puan Aminah Abdul Rahman, the current Chairperson of the Society was in attendance, together with 21 of the exhibiting artists, and their families and friends.

No opening at NN would be complete without a meal prepared by the ‘caterers at the back’, as co-founder, Nabil Nahar calls them. NN Gallery has been around since 1996 and these caterers (Pelita Catering) have grown from strength to strength together with them. On offer that evening was nasi tomato, sambal sotong, ayam goreng, kerabu mangga, mixed vegetables and kuih muih – delicious! And from the look of things, it was enjoyed by all!
