@ Wei-Ling Gallery (Brickfields)

Wei-Ling has done it again. Making full use of a public holiday, she invited artists, friends and clients alike for a spot of lunch to celebrate the gallery’s 10th anniversary. There was no traffic jam and as you entered the tranquil entrance of the shop house, you were greeted by a pianist dressed in black tie, no less, tinkling on the grand piano – what a lovely touch indeed! The pianist’s name is Aaron and he played non-stop throughout the event. It was really nice to hear the music wafting up through the floor boards…

Lunch was a lovely buffet spread and there were tables and chairs provided this time round so that you could enjoy your lunch effortlessly…The Malaysian food was delicious and I want to congratulate the hosts on the wonderful choice of food. My favourite was the sotong brinjal curry!

10 young Malaysian artists, namely: Al Khuzairie, Cheng Yen Pheng, Cheong Tuck Wai, Dhavinder Singh, Wong Chee Meng, Muhd Sarip, Mun Kao, Ruzzeki Harris, Sean Lean and Yim Yen Sum have been identified by Wei-Ling as the next generation of emerging contemporary artists to look out for. As stated in the press release: The ten artists in this group have been shortlisted for their commitment to their practice, who have displayed their integrity as artists, and who seem ready to take on the world. Hear! Hear!

Also in conjunction with the anniversary, there is an exhibition at Wei-Ling Contemporary, The Gardens, called Timeless (4 September 2012 - 10 October 2012), by 10 of the gallery’s represented artists. Yes, there is a lot happening to commemorate this 10th anniversary celebration. A 200 page hard cover book is being published too. Entitled A Decade of Collecting, it will show the development of the Malaysian art scene over the last 10 years and Wei-Ling Gallery’s role in that development. It should be an interesting book to collect, don’t you agree?

Finally, there is also the Shutter Mural where the 20 artists involved in the 2 exhibitions will partake in. Here is a photograph of what greeted me when I arrived for lunch on Monday, the 17th. I am sure it is completed by now. Do share your photograph with me when you visit Wei-Ling Gallery, Brickfields…

Bright Young Things will be on at Wei-Ling Gallery, Brickfields until 21 September 2012 and thereafter from 12-31 October 2012 at Wei-Ling Contemporary, The Gardens.
